Ceramics Technician$

There is an opening at Laney College for a Ceramics Technician starting mid-August 2017.
Duties include:
1. Load, fire, and unload electric kilns.
2. Load, fire, and unload gas kilns.
3. Mix class glazes using scales and following recipes.
4. Mix class colored slips.
5. Repair electric kiln.
6. Maintain gas kilns.
7. Monitor glaze materials and communicate needs to the head of the department.
8. Possibly clean main studio floors with water and vacuum.
9. Keep kiln room clean and well organized.
10. Must enjoy working with and helping students.

Seeking Ceramics Workshop Instructor$

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are currently seeking a ceramics instructor to teach workshops to both adults and children, and host ‘clay project’ birthday parties and private events on the weekends (and occasionally during the week if your schedule permits). The perfect candidate must enjoy working with children between the ages of 7-14 years old and embody a mature, enthusiastic attitude. Experience teaching clay hand-building as well as pottery on the wheel techniques is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Set up/breakdown for parties/private events
• Develop workshop project ideas with Programs Manager
• Manage workshop items through to completion
• Communicate clearly and effectively with staff
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Flexible schedule
• Basic computer skills
• Upbeat, outgoing, customer/team oriented attitude and ability to think & work on your own
• Experience teaching the ceramics arts to adults and children
• Education in ceramic arts – familiarity with hand building and pottery techniques; glazing & firing processes
• Finger printing required
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly wage: $14-18/hr
Position: Part-time Contractor
Working Hours: Fridays 5:30pm-8:30pm (occasional), Saturdays 5:30pm-8:30pm (occasional), Sundays 10:00am-12:30pm, flexibility for an occasional weekday event is desired.
